The Owner’s Representative Functioning As Project Auditor & Facilitator
The Owner’s Rep functioning as Facilitator provides for schedule tracking, control and process management. Though it is every Team Member’s responsibility to maintain their own schedule, it is the Owner’s Rep who assures this schedule is met and steps in as necessary to assist the team in adhering to dates and times. The Owner’s Rep can help achieve greater process control by advising Team Members of possible alternatives to difficult problems and situations. Though the Owner’s Rep may not have the answers on hand, answers may be available through communications with other Team Members.
As Project Auditor the Owner’s Rep must provide the necessary checks and balances to protect the Owner. This is accomplished by the Owner’s Rep becoming an integral part of the team and interfacing with each team member at the deepest levels of productivity. Is the Team being developed properly as a singular functioning entity? Are each of the team members matched to the project? Do each of the team members understand their roles. Are they willing to perform their roles. And are they actually performing as anticipated? Are they communicating well and if not, why? When the Owner’s Rep Audits the Team’s process, the Owner is assured that the Owner’s interests are achieved.
The Owner’s Representative is the one person on the project who always has the Owner’s interests at heart. The Owner’s Rep is a non biased person on the team who can look at the project and give a truly non biased view. The Owner’s Rep responsibility is; Auditing to assure correctness, guiding to assure completeness, and helping the team move the project forward to assure the Owner that the project delivery is on time, on budget and of the value desired at project conception.
